I had the great pleasure of talking to Sean Pillot de Chenecey, host of #TheNewAbnormal Podcast (in partnership with the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies) about my book; Relevant: Future-Focused Leadership.
If you haven't yet tuned into #TheNewAbnormal, I’m sure you’ll find it hugely insightful. Sean's conversations with activists, creatives, writers, philosophers, strategists, psychologists, lecturers and futurists shed much-needed light on today's world of work and the future we are all creating.
You can listen to my conversation with Sean on Spotify or Apple.
Why is being Relevant so important?
I’ve been asked this question many times as a guest on various podcasts and it provokes a whole world of context. The ever-changing context we are all living and working in. Being relevant is having the mental and emotional agility and the skills to adapt to what’s needed now, whilst remaining connected to where we are going.
Leadership is a series of transitions. Transitions in awareness, thinking, relating and skills. These transitions happen when we recognise that our ‘lenses on the world’, or how we understand and filter what’s going on around us, are out of sync with the context we’re in and what may come.
As a new era of AI-infused work stretches out before us, how we think, rather than what we think, will determine our ability to shape the future we desire. It’s the reason I wrote ‘Relevant: Future-Focused Leadership’ and why – if you’re a leader at any level – it’s worth digging into. It’s the difference between merely surviving our changing context or thriving, because of it.
